The Evolution of Kayak Fishing
The search continues for me in the background for the ultimate utility small boat. Sometimes I feel like I have unique criteria that makes this search nearly impossible. The truth is, I've basically had to be patient while companies figure out what kayaks users want.
The advent of roto-molding plastics has changed small sport boats forever. 20 years ago you bought fiberglass and aluminum canoes and the occasional high priced traditional kayak which is virtually worthless to anyone other than the intended inuit tribal right of passage. Once manufacturers realized that durable, lightweight boats could be produced in roto-molded plastic for a fraction of traditional manufacturing costs, the game started to change. I'm no expert in the process, but it seems pretty obvious that developing molds and kicking out higher volumes of seemingly custom plastic boats is a much more efficient process than fiberglass or aluminum.

Vacation Woes
I'm heading to Florida soon for a much needed vacation. Sand sun and fun after a three year hiatus from a full week's vacation. We're excited enough, but the real bummer is that I'm sick as a dog right now. I mean full-on flu sick. That's rare for me, as allergies are usually the extent of what I have to contend with. That's all under control after a visit to the doctor(at least I have drugs now) but the interesting part is the prep staging.

fronts, thunderstorms, and several days of high winds that played havoc
with anglers’ intentions as to bass and crappie patterns.

Frankfort, Ky. – Conditions at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery located below Wolf Creek Dam at Lake Cumberland deteriorated following the recent rains. Trout stockings for October and November must be moved up as a result.
“Lake Cumberland jumped up nearly 5 feet in the last two weeks,” said John Williams, southeastern fishery district biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. “We’ve had a really unusual year so far; the amount of rain has really been a problem.”
